BUILDING / CONSTRUCTION
SECOND CHANCE JOB CENTER’S VOCATIONAL

CERTIFICATION TRAINING

VOCATIONAL TRAINING DURATION
6 – 8 MONTHS

INSTRUCTOR LED TRAINING

Our programs combine in-person, instructor-led training with hybrid online learning. Students benefit from hands-on instruction supported by online assignments, quizzes, and 300+ hours of content to reinforce and extend their learning.


Our state of the art Learning Management System (LMS) supports hybrid assignments and course facilitation allowing our students and instructors to access our training portal anywhere and anytime as long as they have a computer and internet / Wi-Fi connection.

ACADEMIC COURSEWORK

Qualified students may additionally participate in a related on the job learning experience. These students work with an employer to gain valuable skills in their field. Participation requires an application, successful completion of academics, maintaining required grade average and an interview with an SCJC Career Coach. Once approved, SCJC assists in the facilitation of a successful On the Job Learning Experience.

CAREER COACHES

Our career coaches hold a minimum of 3 years experience in the related industries and are certified by SCJC to teach our programs. 


Career coaches track the progress of each student from start to finish. Students must achieve a score of no less than 70% across the board in order to achieve certification and graduate.

ON THE JOB TRAINING

Upon completion of the academic coursework of our programs, students may participate in an on the job learning experience. To be eligible, students must have successfully completed academic training and apply for the OJL through Second Chance Job Center. Eligible students will  work with employer partners in their chosen field / industry and begin their on the job training (Most OJL opportunities are paid. Pay varies per industry, location and employer). Our career coaches work closely with our employer partners and communicate with business owners, project managers, foremen and team leaders weekly to assist in the facilitation of skills development for students.

GRADUATION

Upon successful completion of all academic course work, exams, our winning edge work essential & life skills training and the on the job training with employers, students graduate with certifications that are nationally recognized by the Department of Labor, the Commission of Higher Education, and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). They are now certified with foundational skills and eligible to work as qualified trade professionals in the building / construction industry.
